What is Scouting all about?
The purpose of Scouting is to promote the development of
young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual,
social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible
citizens and as members of their local, national and international
communities.
OK, in English...!
We help young people to become responsible adults through
fun and challenging activities and providing opportunities
for them to find out about the wider world.
How do we do this?
By providing an enjoyable and attractive scheme of progressive
training, based on the Scout Promise and Law, which is guided
by adult leadership. In practice the method is best seen when
young people, in partnership with adults, are:
- enjoying what they are doing
- learning by doing
- participating in varied and progressive activities
- making choices for themselves
- taking responsibility for their own actions
- working in groups
- taking increasing responsibility for others
- taking part in activities outdoors
- sharing in prayer and worship
- making and living out their Promise
What's this "Promise and Law"?
One of the things that separates Scouting from other Youth
movements is our Promise and Law, which are a set of guidelines
that all members are expected to do their best to follow.
There are different versions for the sections, to reflect
the age of the Young People.
